No joke: Fair Grounds will offer a Pick 18

Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots will offer a one-time-only Pick 18 on Friday’s gargantuan 18-race card that kicks off at 12:40 p.m. CDT and continues well into the evening. The bet will carry a 10-cent minimum and there will be no carryover, meaning the pool will be paid out to those with the most correct winners on Friday.
“This is not a joke,” said Fair Grounds Vice President & General Manager Eric Halstrom. “We ended up in a situation where we had to offer 18 races on Friday and figured we might as well have some fun with it.”
In order to avoid unnecessarily long lines, and to protect the sanity of mutuel tellers, on track customers will only be able to bet the Pick 18 at self-service machines.
Friday’s 18-race extravaganza was necessitated by the cancellation of last Thursday’s racing at Fair Grounds. The races lost that afternoon had to be made up by the end of the meet, which concludes with a banner Louisiana Derby Day card on Sunday.
Takeout for the Pick 18 will be 25 percent. Only outlets that use the AmTote totalisator system will be able to offer the Pick 18 to its customers. Fans are encouraged to check with their preferred wagering outlet to confirm whether the bet will be offered.

AmTote and NYRA Seal Tote Deal
Hunt Valley, MD- AmTote and the New York Racing Association (NYRA) have executed a long-term contract for Totalisator services at the iconic NYRA racetracks of Saratoga, Belmont Park and Aqueduct as the result and conclusion of a year-long selection and regulatory approval process.
AmTote will deploy its Spectrum™ system software, terminal hardware, and multiple associated platforms on September 3, 2013 at Belmont and Aqueduct, which is immediately after the conclusion of the Saratoga meeting.
The terminal deployment of approximately 1,800 units will feature AmTote's F3000e "flip" terminal which provides self-serve and teller operations in one convertible design. Also to be deployed at all NYRA facilities is the V3000e self-service terminal which will service on-site cash and account wagering. In select VIP areas AmTote will, for the first time, deploy dozens of wireless tablet PC units featuring an embedded wagering interface.
AmTote's on-track mobile wagering product, MBet™, along with NYRA's other mobile and wireless capabilities will create a seamless account wagering environment at the tracks and throughout the highly successful NYRA Rewards platform.

The contract was awarded to AmTote as a result of an RFQ issued in March 2012. The NYRA Board of Directors approved the process and agreement on April 11, 2013 and the New York State Franchise Oversight Board approved the agreement four days later. A final regulatory review was completed WHEN? by the newly formed New York State Gaming Commission.

NYRA to open new betting terminals from AmTote on September 3
ELMONT, N.Y. – With the goal of enhancing fans’ self-service wagering experience, The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) will employ a new system and betting terminals from AmTote International across a suite of platforms throughout its racetracks beginning Tuesday, September 3.
AmTote will construct three Customer Learning Centers at Belmont Park and Aqueduct Racetrack which will be manned with knowledgeable staff to help fans quickly become accustomed to the new terminal user interface, the mobile application, and the processes for moving between the platforms.
The transition to AmTote wagering platforms at Belmont Park and Aqueduct Racetrack will begin Tuesday, immediately following the conclusion of the race meet at Saratoga Race Course on September 2.
Following a careful selection and regulatory approval process, a long-term contract was signed with AmTote to deploy approximately 1,800 total terminals providing self-serve and teller operations. In addition, the company is deploying new self-service terminals for on-site account wagering. In select VIP areas at Aqueduct, dozens of wireless, tablet computers will be deployed featuring an embedded wagering interface.
AmTote’s on-track mobile wagering device, MBet, will be incorporated into NYRA’s existing mobile and wireless capabilities and throughout the NYRA Rewards platform.
The Customer Learning Center booths at Belmont and Aqueduct will provide a relaxed and convenient way to familiarize fans with the new terminal interface. Staffers will provide assistance with the terminals, pointers on navigation and also distribute free gifts.
Additionally, easily identifiable uniformed staff will be available throughout September in wagering areas and near mutuel lines at the racetracks to assist customers in using the terminals. AmTote and NYRA have jointly produced a video detailing the bet-making process, and the NYRA program will each day feature an informational page illustrating the simple steps for betting on the new self-service terminals.
NYRA mutual tellers also have received an intensive training course to learn the new system, and they participated in a proficiency exercise to hone their skills on the new equipment. AmTote officials will also be help staff mutual lines to further assist the tellers.
